1. Where did you grow up? Ida, Michigan. A small, farm town about 50 miles south of Detroit, where some of my classmates actually drove their tractors to school. It’s true.
2. How long have you been CrossFitting? Just over two years. I tried it, and was hooked.
3. What is your favorite WOD? Grace… 30 clean and jerks for time. I love it but I hate it. That’s what CrossFit is all about right?
4. What’s your favorite lift? I’ll pick two (and break the rules). Back squat and clean and jerk.
5. What’s your least favorite CF move? If you know anyone that likes burpees, let me know. Because I definitely don’t.
6. What do you think is the biggest myth about CrossFit? That you can’t do it. You’re not strong enough, you’re not fit enough, and you may get hurt. You CAN do it, and the coaches and community will make sure you’re safe and successful.
7. What’s your favorite non-CrossFit activity? Hanging with my beautiful wife, daughter and our newborn son! It’s pretty cool being a dad. And I like to play some basketball and golf when I have the time.
8. What’s your nickname? Growing up it was “CK” (initials) or just my last name. My wife has plenty of 4-letter nicknames for me when I misbehave but probably not appropriate for this… kidding, Erin!
9. What do you do for a living? I work in business development, leading growth and strategic initiatives, for a public information company headquartered here in Colorado.
10. How has CrossFit changed your life? I wouldn’t say it has changed my life, but it has certainly improved my way of life in multiple ways. It has made me just as strong mentally as physically. It has made me a better person, not just a stronger person.
And what’s cool about it, I’ve seen others experience the same exact thing. There’s nothing better than seeing someone come into Modig for the first time, for their first workout, and finish to a group of people clapping and cheering them on. Or something that just “clicks” on a pull-up or double-under, and someone links them together for the first time. This happens all the time and it’s awesome to see.
Don’t be afraid to give this CrossFit thing a try. Just three things to keep in mind; listen to your coaches, listen to your body, believe in yourself. You got this.
